Punjab Government Issues Funds to RDA for Kutchery Chowk Remodeling and Rawalpindi Ring Road
News: Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has received funds from the Punjab Government for the renovation and remodeling of Kutchery Chowk Rawalpindi. As per the officials of RDA, PKR 1.46 Billion has been released by Punjab Government for two mainstream projects of the city including Rawalpindi Ring Road and Kutchery Chowk.
The Director General of Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) informed the press that the funds for two major projects of Rawalpindi City i.e. Kutchery Chowk and Rawalpindi Ring Road are awarded to the authority and the work will start soon. Furthermore, he said, that the construction and remodeling work will be started after consulting the stakeholders and development firms.
In the past, RDA requested the Punjab Government to release the funds for the mainstream projects of Rawalpindi City, Punjab Government partially accepted the proposal of RDA and released the funds for Ring Road as well as Kutchery Chowk remodeling. However, the funds for two other major projects including Leh Expressway and Flood Channel are still pending, and the government has not released these projects due to ongoing economic conditions in the country. The officials of the Punjab Government stated that funds for these projects will be released in the future.
RDA persuaded the government officials to release the funds for the RRR project and Kutchery Chowk remodeling as these are ongoing projects and tendering is already completed. Moreover, Rawalpindi Development Authority also needs to get permission from the Election Commission of Pakistan to start these mega projects. RDA Director General stated that a letter has been written and sent to the commission and these projects will be launched after a green signal.
RDA has already directed Frontier Works Organization to submit the traffic plan before starting the Kutchery Chowk remodeling. Furthermore, the selection of the development firm for the evaluation of the Rawalpindi Ring Road Route is underway, and it will be finalized by the end of March 2023.
