The development work on Rawalpindi Ring Road is going to face yet another investigation and for this reason, the work has come to a halt again. The Punjab government has opened an inquiry over the alignment of the road and the scandal from the previous government has resurfaced again.

There were 3 projects planned by the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA). PKR 50 million was allocated for Rawalpindi Ring Road and Rawal Expressway each and PKR 500 million was allocated for Kacheri Chowk.

PKR 4.5 billion was released by the government to the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) for Rawalpindi Ring Road. But since no work order was issued, the token money that was released for the project came back to the authority.

Mr. Umar Rasool, DG – Civil Services Academy, is going to lead the investigation on the realignment of the Rawalpindi Ring Road. The previous scandals surfaced when the former Prime Minister opened an investigation against Punjab bureaucracy and some PTI Officials involved in the development work on Rawalpindi Ring Road.

It is the main project for the entire city as it was going to become the economic hub of Rawalpindi. If the project is halted for a long period, the cost of construction will also increase because of the increase in petroleum prices.

As soon as the new government took hold of the PM office, they had reservations about the new alignment of the Rawalpindi Ring Road. The current government is yet to decide about starting the work on this project until the investigations are open on the project.
