Bahria Town has once again proved itself to be one of the biggest charitable institutions of Pakistan. The private real estate developer has decided to construct 2000 Awami Apartments for the poor which will be given to them free of cost. This project is a sequel to the ongoing public welfare projects in Rawalpindi and Lahore under the vision to provide own residence to the homeless people in Pakistan.
Awami Apartments is a welfare initiative of Bahria Town. Earlier Awami Projects were launched in Bahria Town Rawalpindi and Bahria Town Lahore where Huts and apartments were constructed for the Poor and given to them at nominal cost of 5 lac rupees per house.
Bahria Town has gone a step further this time in Karachi and decided to give away Awami Apartments free of cost to the poor homeless families in Pakistan. Apart from free residence, Bahria Town will provide free medical facilities to the entire family for life and free education will be provided to one brilliant child from each family. Those families will enjoy all living facilities which are available to any other resident of Bahria Town Karachi.
Awami apartments will comprise two Bedrooms with one independent Bathroom, a Kitchen, Living Room/Drawing/Dining Room and a Store. Covered area of a flat will be 1000 Square Feet. If we compare these features with Awami Villas in Bahria Town Rawlapindi, Awami Apartments have larger covered area and a store room is included in the plan.
Since this is a welfare project, the eligibility criteria for applicants is defined below:
The above listed conditions clearly define the purpose of this project. We strongly urge you to help those who meet these conditions and let them apply for these apartments so that they can have their own residence.
A committee from the civil society will be formed to verify and scrutinize the applications. The committee will consist of a retired judge, a retired army general, a journalist and a bureaucrat. This verification procedure has to be fair enough so that only the needy ones can avail this opportunity.
Awami Apartments application forms will be available for free to all. These forms will be printed on newspapers as well as can be downloaded from Bahria Town’s official website, so that people can easily avail these forms and apply. A nominal amount of 500 PKR will be charged as membership fees at the time of handing over keys to the applicants.
Out of total 2000 Awami Apartments included in this project, 1000 apartments will be completed and handed over in one year, and remaining 1000 apartments will handed over after 2 years. Construction on the project has already started and forms will be available very soon.
Chairman of Bahria Town, Mr. Malik Riaz Hussain, has also asked the philanthropist community of the country to step forward and participate in this noble cause to serve the homeless people in the society.
