Housing Schemes Under RDA and CDA
Overview
In a recent development, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has decided to conduct a joint survey with Capital Development Authority (CDA) to define the boundaries of both the authorities.
Mr. Tariq Mehmood, Chairman Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), decided to survey Rawalpindi and Islamabad to define their boundaries. The survey would be conducted in collaboration with CDA.
A panel will be constituted that will conduct the survey and the aim is to resolve the Tax collection issues between the two cities. This delimitation panel will be responsible for determining the territories of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
It is a common practice that many housing schemes which come under the jurisdiction of Rawalpindi but they market themselves as a project in Islamabad due to the high demand for capital properties.

The suggestion for this territorial demarcation was put forward in the 58th governing body meeting of RDA. This meeting was headed by the chairman himself and his recommendation was presented in front of the members.
The residents will be able to enjoy better services once the land demarcation is completed. An added benefit is the increased amount of revenue that the authorities will get from these definitive boundaries.
Many residents get their No Objection Certificate (NOC) from CDA whereas the property is in Rawalpindi. Hence, it lessens the amount of property tax for RDA and this has been in practice for years now.
All the housing projects that were started before the formation of RDA in 1989 will also be put to scrutiny. The legislation of all the illegal housing societies was also discussed in the meeting.

RDA’s Metropolitan Planning and Traffic Engineering will also serve on the commission and they will look at the schemes’ mortgage status. This demarcation will eventually benefit the residents of both Rawalpindi and Islamabad and tax collection will increase for both RDA and CDA.
