RDA Awards Rawalpindi Ring Road Project to FWO
Finally the big news is out and Rawalpindi Development Authority has awarded the construction tender of Rawalpindi Ring Road to Frontier Work Organization (FWO). The contract worth is 22.80 billion rupees, and it includes construction of 38.3 KM carriage way from Banth N-5 GT Road to Thalian Interchange at M-2 Motorway.
Recently, Rawalpindi Development Authority called for applications for the construction tender of Rawalpindi Ring Road Project. Only two firms were approved to submit their bid for the project, i.e. FWO and NLC. National Logistics Cell (NLC) failed to apply by the given deadline, so FWO became the only bidder for this mega project.
The main reason behind awarding the project to FWO was that it had bid 300 million less than the estimated cost of the project. According to RDA Chairman, FWO emerged as the lowest bidder for the Rawalpindi Ring Road project after the committee opened the technical and financial bids in presence of all concerned personnel.
Officials say that the development of a 38.3 Km long main carriageway from Baanth (N-5) to Thaliyan (M-2) would be completed within 2 years. The Ring Road would be constructed as per the old alignment plan, and special economic zones are no longer part of this plan.

Moreover, a group led by China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd. had a word with RDA Chairman Tariq Mehmood Murtaza. The Chinese company expressed interest to cooperate in the large-scale projects of Rawalpindi Like Ring Road and Nullah Lai Expressway etc.
As the construction work has now been awarded to FWO, official ground breaking ceremony is likely to take place soon after public hearing by Environment Protection Agency on 29th of March, 2022.
