Sector I-17 Islamabad to be Turned into a Medical City

Medical City I-17

National Institute of Medical Sciences (NUMS) has signed multiple agreements with German Companies for establishment of an international standard medical city in Sector I-17 Islamabad. The German companies, i.e. Siemens Healthcare Ltd, Powergroup and It’s a Deal GmbH that will assist NUMS during all stages of financing, investments, technological upgradation and education.

The decision to turn Sector I-17 into an advanced medical city was taken by CDA in 2018, and later on the land was transferred to NUMS to materialize the concept. It took NUMS some time before a comprehensive master plan of the medical city was chalked out, however all details have now been finalized in this regard and we can expect physical progress in the days to come.

As per the plan, the I-17 Medical City will feature NUMS Institute of Advanced Studies & Research, 400 bed indoor health facilities in various disciplines, medical colleges producing 300 doctors, 800 BSc nurses and 600+ allied health professionals, and science and technology park.

NUMS will also establish a number of primary healthcare units at different locations in Islamabad and Rawalpindi in collaboration with international partners. It will also establish home healthcare, emergency and mobile health services at doorsteps in Twin Cities. The entire cost of setting up healthcare units will be raised by NUMS.

Islamabad Medical City is going to enhance the healthcare facilities in the twin cities. The NUMS research institute will be a premium facility that will focus on indigenous biogenetics for precision medicines, bio banking, drug testing, vaccines and other advanced healthcare researches.
