The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has planned to allot CDA-sector I-17 to the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS). It is a total area of 7,344 Kanals which approximately becomes 900 acres of land.
The decision came that the land would be given to the National University of Medical Sciences at a rate of PKR 1.8 million per Kanal. The NUMS has plans to build a 1600-bed hospital, research facilities, and allied services in this sector.
The total cost of the land procured for this purpose is going to reach PKR 13.6 billion on hold proper basis. NUMS is planning to establish a complete medical city in this sector, and it is not only going to be unique in the country but the entire South Asian region.
The Planning Commission- Economic Appraisal section is still questioning the justification for choosing Islamabad for this project. The Planning Commission understands that there is more need for such projects in other parts of the country.
The construction of CDA Sector I-17 is going to take place in four phases and the first phase is going to roughly cost PKR 15 billion. A 600-bed hospital coupled with other medical services is going to be part of the first phase.
The initial lease of land is going to be awarded for only 33 years, but it can be extended for two consecutive periods of the same tenure of 33 years. The Ministry of Defense is going to be sponsoring the project and this project is going to benefit undergraduate and postgraduate students with research and education opportunities.
