RDA was Unable to Initiate Any Development Project in the Current Fiscal Year

Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has been found inactive in the ongoing fiscal year, in terms of new developments in Rawalpindi City. RDA has not initiated even a single development project across the city, not only this but, the already launched projects are also facing delays due to different reasons. The current fiscal year is about to end, with no developments seen so far from Rawalpindi Development Authority.

The ongoing projects are also delayed, three of the major projects of Rawalpindi, awarded to RDA, are not even started yet. These projects include the anxiously awaited Rawalpindi Ring Road, Leh Expressway, Kutchery Chowk remodeling, and flood channels. “No noticeable development has been witnessed in these projects, other than the PC-1 design,” said a senior officer of RDA.

According to him, the present government does not want to initiate any new development projects, mainly due to political instability. Furthermore, he stated that the patchwork of 3 major roads of Rawalpindi including LHC Road, Airport Road, and Service Road was completed, but their condition is still very bad.

Although, Rawalpindi Development Authority completed the development work of different projects across Rawalpindi including Double Road Interchange, Liaquat Bagh Flyover, and Fawwara Chowk Parking Plaza from 2013 to 2018. However, the civic agency has been slow in initiating new projects and completing the past project for the past 5 years.

Rawalpindi Ring Road was a major project for the city, that has been revised a lot of times and claims have been made to start this project multiple times, but there is no progress so far. As per the officials of RDA, the civic body cannot take decisions to start development projects on its own, without clearance from the government. Whereas, the government is not ready to approve any new development project due to the ongoing instability in the country.
