NHA Renames the Part of G.T Road Connecting Rawat to Kutchery Chowk
The National Highway Authority (NHA) of Pakistan has recently renamed a significant portion of the Grand Trunk (GT) Road, which connects Rawat with Kutchery Chowk in Islamabad. The road will now be called the “Potohar Avenue”; NHA also issued a notification for this name change of Rawat, T-Chowk to Kutchery Chowk portion of G.T Road.
The new name, Potohar Avenue, is derived from the region where the road is located. Potohar is a mountainous region in northern Pakistan, which includes parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu, and Kashmir. This region is known for its rich history and cultural heritage, and the new name aims to celebrate this unique identity.
The renaming of this portion of G.T Road is a significant move by the NHA, as it is one of the busiest roads in the area and connects Rawalpindi to several major cities, including Lahore and Peshawar. The new name, Potohar Avenue, will not only help promote the cultural identity of the region but will also help in creating a distinct identity for the area.
A meeting for review of the development work of Potohar Avenue was held in Rawalpindi, led by the Commissioner of Rawalpindi. He said that the name change will add a cultural aspect to this part of the road and highlight it.
Furthermore, the Commissioner also revealed peri-urban union councils of Rawalpindi City and clarified that the area from the Soan River Bridge to Toyota Showroom will now be overlooked by the Rawalpindi District Administration Control. Furthermore, he also shared the updates of the anti-encroachment drive that started on 24 February. In the first phase, the authority is fining individuals. As of now, PKR 700,000 worth of fines has been imposed in different areas of the city.
