After assuming power in the center, Mr. Shahbaz Sharif, has announced that the Metro Bus Project from Rawat to Faizabad to start soon. This bus project will begin in the coming week since the proposal was never reviewed after the government changed in 2018.
The feasibility report was prepared in 2017 on two main lines for a Metro bus project in the city. One would lead from Saddar to Tarnol and the other one would be from Rawat to Faizabad.
NESPAK has been contacted to start the work on the Rawat-Faizabad route in the next week. The work on the Saddar-Tarnol route cannot be started because the provincial government is already working on signal-free Peshawar Road.
This signal-free Peshawar Road will start from Katchery Chowk till Motorway Chowk. This will include five underpasses and a flyover.
Another reason that the Saddar Tarnol Route is not feasible is because of its proximity to the sensitive areas. The feasibility study of the Rawat till Faizabad route has already been completed and it is easier to start this project on short notice.
There are reports on starting the Blue Line and Orange Line projects between Islamabad and Rawalpindi. However, the district administration is yet to receive formal instructions on how to proceed in this matter.
This will hopefully resolve the problem of traffic congestion on this route as the road is also being expanded under the FWO’s contract. The problem of commuting by local alternatives will also bring relief to the residents of the Twin Cities.
