According to the latest news, RDA requested the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to block the advertisements of illegal housing schemes on national TV. This ban implies the housing schemes that fall under the jurisdiction of the Rawalpindi Development Authority.
RDA imposed this ban after reports of the broadcast of illegal societies from print and electronic media. This ban will be imposed on Television, Radio, and social media platforms. This is a crucial step taken by RDA and PEMRA to save the general public from fraudulent housing projects. For this purpose, PEMRA will take serious actions and block and suspend social media pages, groups, and profiles of the illegal projects and their owners. Moreover, legal actions will be taken where necessary.
According to the RDA spokesperson, there are around 134 schemes that fall under the Rawalpindi Development Authority. Out of which, 88 housing projects are illegal and unapproved by the authority. Still, many of these societies are posing as approved or under-process and continue advertising and scamming the public.
Director-General RDA, Tahir Zafar Abbas wrote letters to the following institutes for successful implementation of this ban:
A similar step is expected from the Lahore Development Authority as Lahore (LDA) High Court directed the authority to curb the advertisement of illegal housing societies.
