Ring Road PC-1 Under Revision

Rawalpindi Ring Road is one of the most sought-after and often debated infrastructural projects of the twin cities. Numerous housing projects and societies are also associated with this project, as it benefits them in terms of accessibility and market value. However, recently, the PC-1 of Rawalpindi Ring Road was under revision once again, mainly due to the issue of budget. The project will be revised again, as the construction material prices have risen significantly, causing further delays in its development. This news was shared across different newspapers.

According to the details of this news, the cost for the development of the Rawalpindi Ring road was estimated to be around PKR 27 Billion, but now it has risen to over PKR 31 Billion, concerning the relative authorities. A meeting was held between the members of Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chatta. Members of the Rawalpindi Development Administration, RDA, and Frontier Works Organization (FWO) attended this meeting.

The meeting was held solely for one purpose, to identify the increase in the cost of construction materials like concrete, cement, iron, petrol, and other materials in the past few months. All the members and the Commissioner himself agreed to revise the cost plan for this mega project.

Furthermore, the land acquisition process was also a matter of discussion in this meeting, RDA officials shared the details with members. Around 9000 Kanal of land is required to develop the 38.8-kilometer-long Ring Road project. The officials also stated, that around 70% of the land is required. Moreover, the project passes through almost 36 rural areas, some of which are located in Gujar Khan and some in Rawalpindi District. The survey is still under process, and land areas are being marked.

After the meeting, Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chatta, also the director of the Rawalpindi Rind Road project, suggested that the PC-1 of the project should be revised and an ideal budget should be given to the government for approval.
