Punjab Government has finally approved PC-1 of Rawalpindi Ring Road project and allocated 600 million rupees for land acquisition. This bypass has been delayed for past couple of years due to unspecified reasons, but finally it is inching towards physical development stage. Asian Infrastructure Bank of China will provide loan for construction of ring road, and all formal agreements in this regard have been signed between Punjab Government and the Bank of China.
Total cost of Rawalpindi Ring Road is estimated to be 439 million USD i.e. approximately 47 billion rupees. Detailed design plan of the project will be finalized by NESPAK in next 2 months, and physical development work will commence from February 2019. The Punjab Government has allocated 6 billion rupees for purchase of land, while 120 million rupees have been allocated for PC-2 of Ring Road.
We have attached above the final approved alignment plan of Rawalpindi Ring Road which connects Rawat to Motorway M-2 at Thalian Interchange while touching GT Road, Adyala Road and Chakri Road. It is the most needed project for Rawalpindi that will divert heavy traffic through a bypass, especially the traffic which enters or exits the city. It will resolve heavy traffic issues in Rawalpindi as well as save a lot of time due to unavailability of alternate routes to access Motorway and Airport.
