New Islamabad Airport to Start Operations from 2016

Federal Minister for Planning and Development Mr. Ahsan Iqbal visited new Islamabad airport and observed the development progress.

Talking to the media, Mr. Ahsan Iqbal stated that 85% development work has been completed and the airport will be completed and operational by 2016.

Grid station for supply of electricity to the airport has been completed and two projects of DAM for water supply have been approved.

Terminal building of the airport will be completed by November 2015, and the road infrastructure will be completed in next 6 to 9 months.

Overall cost of the project has increased from initial estimated 37 billion rupees up to 90 billion rupees till the completion of this project. 81 billion rupees have been spent so far on the project.

Inquiry against those who caused delays in the project has been completed by FIA, and action will be taken against the responsible persons.

New Islamabad Airport will have the capacity of landing the largest Airplane – Airbus 380 and it will serve around 9 million passengers annually.
