Government to Work on Green Building Initiative to Tackle Climate Change
News: According to a news source, the Senate Standing Committee was briefed on how to tackle climate change. For this purpose, officials of the Ministry of Climate Change (MOCC) guided the members on how the green building initiatives can save them from the adverse effects of climate change and reduce the effects.
Green building initiative has been on to-do list of the government but hardly any efforts were seen to put this initiative to work. The additional Secretary of the Ministry of Climate Change (MOCC) held a meeting with the members of the Senate Standing Committee for the very purpose. He briefed the member on how can green building initiatives save the country from the hazards of climate change. He also stated that Pakistan is country with lowest contribution towards climate change but faces most adverse effects like a rise in temperatures, flooding, smog in winters and more.
In the briefing, Additional Secretary of MOCC said that the department is indulging in talks with all provincial governments to start awareness campaigns of green building initiatives on how it can reduce the hazards of climate change, global warming, and urban heat. In addition to this, the Green building initiative can also help in tackling climate-related effects including air pollution, water conservation, waste reduction, and air quality. Furthermore, green buildings can also prove to help stop floods, by improving the elevation of buildings and promoting the development of green infrastructure.
Moreover, members of the federal government and MOCC also took part in the International Conference on Climate Resilient in Geneva. He states that almost 8 Million people in the country are displaced and 33 Million people are affected in total due to the monsoon flooding in 2022. The estimated loss as a result of floods adds up to a total of USD 15.23 Billion.
