Comparison of Facilities: Existing VS New Islamabad Airport

Civil Aviation Authority has released a comparison of facilities between the Existing Benazir Bhutto International Airport and The New Islamabad International Airport; which is under construction in Fateh Jang tehsil of District Kohat. This list gives all necessary details of facilities which are either missing or less than requirements in the existing Airport, which justifies the necessity of new Islamabad Airport.

Following are the details of facilities:

Passenger Handling Capacity

Existing Airport can handle up to 3 million passengers per annum

New Airport will be able to handle up to 9 million passengers per annum

Cargo Handling Capacity

Existing Airport can handle up to 40,000 Metric Tons of cargo

New Airport can handle up to 200,000 Metric Tons of cargo

Runways

Existing Airport has 01 runway

New Airport has 02 runways

Taxiways

Existing Airport has 03 taxiways

New Airport will have 09 taxiways

Rapid Exit Taxiways

Existing Airport does not have rapid exit taxiways

New Airport has 03 rapid exit taxiways

Parallel Taxiways

Existing Airport does not have parallel taxiways

New Airport has 01 parallel taxiway

Aprons

Existing Airport has 01 apron

New Airport has 05 aprons

Passenger Boarding Bridges

Existing Airport does not have passenger boarding bridges

New Airport has 09 passenger boarding bridgers
