Civil Aviation Authority has released a comparison of facilities between the Existing Benazir Bhutto International Airport and The New Islamabad International Airport; which is under construction in Fateh Jang tehsil of District Kohat. This list gives all necessary details of facilities which are either missing or less than requirements in the existing Airport, which justifies the necessity of new Islamabad Airport.

Passenger Handling Capacity
Existing Airport can handle up to 3 million passengers per annum
New Airport will be able to handle up to 9 million passengers per annum
Cargo Handling Capacity
Existing Airport can handle up to 40,000 Metric Tons of cargo
New Airport can handle up to 200,000 Metric Tons of cargo

Existing Airport has 01 runway
