The order for the revival of CM’s low-cost housing scheme was given by Punjab Caretaker to Chief Minister. Mr. Mohsin Naqvi said the scheme should be restored to provide affordable housing for the low and middle-class people of the province.

Chief Minister’s low-cost housing scheme was halted in the past due to several reasons, mainly due to insufficiency of funds and carelessness of the developers and administrative authorities. For the revival of CM’s low-cost housing scheme, a meeting was called by the Punjab Caretaker, Mr. Mohsin Naqvi. The members of the board of Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) attended this meeting chaired by the Punjab Caretaker. Mr. Naqvi directed the members that this scheme should be revived as soon as possible. He also said that this necessary step should be taken immediately to develop housing for the increasing population.

Furthermore, he also said that interest-free loans should be issued to low-income families so that they can construct their homes and return the loans in installments. Moreover, he stated that the revival of low-cost housing schemes is the need of the hour to facilitate the poor population with places to live. In addition, he also stated that a home is a basic need of humans and the government takes measures to construct affordable houses to meet the ever-increasing demand in Punjab.

Furthermore, the members of PHATA were also informed about the partnership between Punjab Government and Akhuwat Foundation for the provision of interest-free loans for houses smaller than 5 Marla. According to the reports from Akhuwat Foundation, it was successful in getting back 100% of loans from the general public in the past. Punjab Caretaker also requested the officials of Akhuwat Foundation to increase the total loan budget from 200 million to 800 million.

PHATA and other authorities are ordered to take the required measures for the revival of CM’s low-cost housing scheme as soon as possible.
