CM Punjab Directs Authorities to Start Work on Ring Road and Nullah Lai Expressway
The newly elected Chief Minister of Punjab has ordered the authorities to start the development work on Rawalpindi Ring Road and Nullah Lai Expressway without any further delays.
This is yet another turn in the development of the most sought projects of Rawalpindi namely the Lai Expressway and Ring Road Rawalpindi. Previously, the government put a halt on the project for reasons like insufficient funds publicized. Funds for both of these projects were to be allotted in the budget 2022 passed in June 2022, but no action was taken to revamp these infrastructural projects.
However, a meeting was held under the chair of CM Punjab on 8th August 2022, other officials of the Punjab Government were also a part of this meeting to review the Ring Road and Lai Expressway. After consideration, CM ordered to resume these projects. CM Punjab directed the authorities to start work on these projects as soon as possible and save public money. He also demanded the early completion of these two roads.
Furthermore, another decision of this meeting was to revamp the already existing road of Rawalpindi. Moreover, other roads will be constructed along with these two mega projects. The purpose of developing the Lai Expressway and Ring Road is to provide a convenient alternate route for people of the city and maintenance of traffic flow.
The total cost of Lai Expressway has been reduced to PKR 46 Billion which was about 110 Billion in the previous tenure in the effort of saving public money. Future of numerous private housing schemes is dependent on the Rawalpindi Ring Road project because it will provide alternate access routes and independent interchanges for a few societies. The layout plan of Ring Road was finalized before, but it is yet to see if it remains so or gets changed!
