CDA Board Approves Realignment of Margalla Road

Realignment of Margalla Road Banner

A slight change and realignment of Margalla Road have been approved by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) due to a century-old graveyard that was coming in between the Margalla Road planned route. This Margalla Road section was near Shah Allah Ditta, and the realignment was approved by the CDA.

The road will now be diverted to the Southern side towards C-13 and D-12 and the graveyard will be saved from any destruction. Frontier Works Organization (FWO) faced issues related to the graveyard earlier.

The development work on Phase – I is almost completed with 70% of the work already done on this section of the Margalla Road. This section of the road extends from GT Road to Sector D-12.

The CDA Chairman, himself, took notice of the situation and directed the realignment to be made to conserve the graveyard. He also issued orders to compensate the people whose houses are coming on the realigned road.

It was also proposed earlier that an underpass or an overhead bridge can be constructed in this location. This section of the road ends in D-12 and an interchange is going to be constructed to connect Khayaban-i-Iqbal via 11th Avenue.

Two phases of Margalla Road are to be constructed this year and a third phase is expected only if the need arises for its development. The second phase is an 8-KMs patch as Bara Kahu Bypass and the Quaid-i-Azam University will be compensated land elsewhere.

The board approved the realignment so that the century-old graveyard is conserved. All the people will be compensated according to their loss of land or home.
