The most awaited inauguration of New Islamabad Airport has been delayed once again, and the new date finalized for operationalization of the airport is 3rd May 2018. Earlier the date finalized for opening of Islamabad Airport was 20th April 2018.
The decision to delay the inauguration was taken by Special Advisor to Prime Minister on Aviation Sardar Mahtab Khan, who has directed CAA to retest all operational facilities at NIIAP before the final operationalization.
Another important decision regarding the name of New Islamabad Airport has been taken, and instead of naming it after any personality, it is simply named as Islamabad International Airport (IIAP).
