Capital Development Authority (CDA) has directed the concerned authorities of the federal capital to survey the illegal housing societies in Islamabad. According to details, numerous societies do not possess NOC from authorities but continue to function and sell plots and files to consumers. Such private housing schemes will be identified and an updated list will be released to the general public so they don’t fall for any scams.

According to the news published in a local newspaper on 7 July 2022. A survey of illegal housing societies will be initiated under the supervision of Revenue and Field Officers. They will review private housing schemes, and generate an updated list as hundreds of new housing societies are emerging in Islamabad.

The private housing scheme needs to follow a 2-step procedure for the acquisition of NOCs from concerned authorities that includes 19 major and 29 minor steps.

  • The first step is approval of layout plan that is used by different societies to boast society’s approval.
  • Second step is the issuance of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to private housing societies that make them legal projects.

Moreover, acquisition of NOC is a time-consuming process and takes anywhere from 2 to 2.5 years, according to ground rules, no private housing project can start development before NOC approval. The main reason for so many emerging housing projects is that the government has failed to introduce new residential sectors for the public.

According to the officials, the development work in all illegal housing societies in Islamabad will be halted by the respective authorities after the completion of this process and strict legal actions will be taken against them. Moreover, authorities are also focusing on devising a mechanism that can be used to tell about the legal status of any housing project in Islamabad.
