The Rs 14 billion Kutchery Chowk remodeling project, executed by the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), is rapidly approaching a critical milestone. The newly constructed flyovers and underpasses are set to officially open for public traffic before the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays in March.
This mega-infrastructure development stands as a monumental shift in Rawalpindi’s urban mobility, designed to drastically alleviate severe traffic bottlenecks at one of the city’s most historically congested intersections.
Currently, the Kutchery Chowk project has achieved 70% overall completion. The structural engineering is well advanced, and the asphalt laying process has officially commenced to ensure the main transit routes are commuter-ready before the festive season.

While these core roads will be fully operational by Eid, the final comprehensive completion of the entire remodeling project is officially targeted for April 30, 2026.
To complement the heavy infrastructure, the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) is actively executing a massive beautification drive. This parallel effort includes the installation of modern lampposts, the development of green belts, and extensive tree plantation along the newly constructed corridors.
Furthermore, critical drainage infrastructure has been integrated into the design; three large sump wells are actively being constructed to collect rainwater from the underpasses and flyovers, discharging it into nearby nullahs to permanently mitigate urban flooding risks at the chowk.
By separating local and transit traffic through multi-level flyovers and underpasses, the project ensures uninterrupted flow at the cross-section.
Recent technical inspections by Nespak and FWO leadership have also finalized the designs for adjacent service roads and future-proofed U-turns. This stringent oversight guarantees smooth maneuverability for heavy vehicles and actively facilitates the future transition of e-buses through the corridor.
From an analytical investment perspective, resolving the chronic congestion at Kutchery Chowk fundamentally alters the commercial and residential viability of the surrounding areas.
By enabling seamless traffic flow and drastically reducing commute times, real estate valuations in the immediate vicinity and the wider Cantonment area are positioned for a sharp upward trajectory.
For investors holding tangible assets here, this FWO-executed upgrade solidifies sustained property demand, immediately enhancing commercial visibility and paving the way for significantly higher rental yields and robust, long-term capital growth.
Following the successful operational launch of Kutchery Chowk, development focus will briefly pivot to the adjacent Peshawar Road corridor.
Formal construction of three new strategic underpasses—at Race Course Park Chowk, Army Graveyard Chowk, and Charing Cross—is scheduled to commence on March 28, directly after the Eid holidays.
Backed by Punjab Government directives, the FWO aims to complete this subsequent phase within a strict 70-day timeline by late June, utilizing single-lane traffic diversions to maintain commuter flow.
