New Islamabad International Airport is most likely to be operational by 31st December 2017. According to Mr. Irfan Elahi, Federal Secretary for Aviation Division, latest machinery has been installed at the new airport and the airport will be ready for national and international flight operations within 10 days notice.
After opening of new airport, traffic will be able to travel from the airport to Islamabad and Rawalpindi through Thalian Interchange. Metro Bus Service project work is under speedy development, and the project is planned to be ready by December 2017.
Following is the current progress update:
Boarding bridges have been installed for 15 passenger planes and test trials of latest machines of passenger luggage are near completion. Computerized electronic boards of arrival and departure information have been tested successfully. Construction of Rainwater dam for water supply has been completed.
