New Islamabad Airport to be Operational by 2016
Civil Aviation Authority has revealed that New Islamabad International Airport would be completed by the end of 2016. The authorities haven’t revealed anything about the actual progress on the project, delaying factors & additional cost of the project.
About 98% of the civil work and hydrant refueling system has been completed and more than 55% work on air traffic control system has been completed already.
It is pertinent to note that PM Nawaz Sharif had visited the project site in March 2014 and had set a new deadline, i.e. March 2015, for completion of this project but CAA seems to have failed to meet the deadline.
Authorities say that the physical work might complete in 2015 but the installations of machinery & systems might take longer time which can push the timeline up to the end of 2016 before the operations can be started. Link road to New Islamabad Airport is also an undecided matter which need attention of NHA.
Standing Committee of National Assembly has decided to personally visit New Islamabad Airport Project Site on 13th of October in order for investigation and physical verification of the work done by CAA.
